    Upgrading from HTTP to HTTP

    Hello Mathieu,

I want to upgrade my site from HTTP to HTTPS. One thing is to purchase and install SSL certificate. Second is to update/upgrade the site.

Can you tell me what changes are required in the theme so that the migration is smooth? I would appreciate any guidance on this one

    thanks

    Hi Girish,

There shouldn’t be any change to make in the theme; everything is meant to support both http and https automatically without any change.

    Not theme related:
Before purchasing an SSL certificate: check if your host supports letsencrypt (free SSL!), unless you really need a paid one from a well known brand.

Please make absolutely sure you have a backup ready before you update your site to https. Many things can break easily during this process, believe me 😉

Once you have an SSL certificate installed on your domain, everything you should need to do is update your WordPress address and Site address to https in Settings > General.

Once your site is on https, if you have some “insecure” warnings, you should double check your content and settings for internal resources (especially images) that are still loaded with http and update their urls.
Hunt them all down until you have the glorious green padlock in the browser’s url bar!
